40th anniversary of Cuban Revolution
Cuban President Fidel Castro casts a distinctive shadow on a balcony in Santiago de Cuba during a 40th anniversary speech made from the same rail where he addressed crowds after winning the revolution in 1959. Flags flew in his honor throughout Cuba's second-largest city (right).


Superbowl rioting in Denver
As many as twenty bullet holes riddle the entryway of the New Life church in Colorado Springs, Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, where a day earlier gunman Matthew Murray entered the building. Two church goers were killed in addition to Murray, who also killed two in the Denver suburb of Arvada on the same day.


Superbowl rioting in Denver
Riot gear-clad Denver police spray pepper spray into the face of revelers following the Denver Broncos' second Super Bowl win in as many years. Rioting erupted throughout the metro area shortly after the game when police tried to clear the streets.


Guilty verdict for McVeigh
Victory signs held high, Peggy Broxterman leaves Federal Court in Denver after a jury convicted Timothy McVeigh in the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Broxterman's son was killed in the blast.


Bambis
Two young mule deer fawns huddle among the ashes of Colorado's mammoth Hayman fire, which burned more than 180,000 acres of forest land during the summer of 2002. The two likely orphans are indicative of the environmental damage caused by the largest wild fire in state history.


Call to Arms
Combat medic Cpl. Chris Marcengill and wife Lacey say goodbye before deployment first to a base in Wisconsin, then possibly the Persian Gulf. The call up of the reservist doctors of C Company, 109th Area Support Medical Battalion may tax the small communities from which many come.
