The Evangelist
Iraldo Alves de Oliveira, 46, passes a religious tract to a neighbor in the rural Brazilian town of Engenheiro Pedreira while evangelizing around town on a Sunday afternoon with his wife Nilsa, 42. Oliveira describes himself as a former drinker and gambler reformed by the church.

The Deacon
A deacon in his Brazilian Assembly of God church, Oliveira consults on church policy with his pastor before a service.

The Family Man
Oliveira converted to the church after a Pentecostal minister stopped him from drunkenly smashing household items and beating his wife. Now he actively studies the Bible with his family. "This woman is everything in my life," he said of Nilsa as he embraced her.

Teachers
Oliveira and wife Nilsa teach Sunday Bible classes to children and new congregation members, looking for answers to daily problems for their converts.

A Coffee
Iraldo sips coffee with wife Nilsa, left, and a sister-in-law after a church service. Both women were active in Pentecostal churches long before Oliveria himself was drawn into the faith.
