Onate/Moloney

The 1605 signature of Don Juan de Onate, the Spanish colonizer of New Mexico, can still be seen on the sandstone of El Morro in Western New Mexico. Onate marked the stone with "Passed here the Adelantado Juan de Onate from the discovery of the South Sea on the 16th of April, 1605." This year will mark the 400th anniversary of Onate's entrada into New Mexico.
