WIND

Rain falls behind a ranch in southeastern Wyoming, home of some of the nation's grand champion winds. Wind energy companies have been scrambling across Wyoming's notoriously windy eastern plains hoping to sign up ranchers for access to install trubines for electricity generation. Many of the ranchers are uncharacteristically banding together to negotiate for better prices for the access. (Kevin Moloney for the New York Times)
