Brazil's Pantanal Wetland

A cowboy, or gaucho, takes a smoke in the tack barn on the Fazenda Rio Negro in Brazil's giant Pantanal Mato Grossense wetland. The wetland, half the size of France, supports one of the most intact arrays of wildlife in the world, despite 200 years of cattle ranching. Subdivision of properties in the region weaken the economic viability of the traditional ranches.
