Riders cross a road cut through the Comb Ridge uplift formation between Bluff and Mexican Hat, Utah, July 1, 2010. The Red Rock Canyons Tour, organized by Lizard Head Cycling Tours, wound through 400 miles of the desert southwest. The route traveled through canyons and national monuments in Colorado, Utah and Arizona, ending at Lake Powell. (Kevin Moloney for the New York Times)
